The Causes Of Static Seal Damage

Created on 2024.08.06
The sealing pair does not produce relative motion and is in a relatively stationary state, which is called static sealing, and the surface of the seal is called the static sealing surface.
The causes of static seal damage can be summarized as follows:
(1) The surface roughness of the static sealing surface is high, mainly due to the long service time, medium erosion, and poor maintenance.
(2) There is obvious indentation on the static sealing surface, which is mainly caused by the high hardness of the gasket or mixed with sand particles, welding nodules, etc.
(3) There are scratches and shovel wounds on the static sealing surface, which are mainly caused by violation of operating procedures and improper force during disassembly and cleaning.
(4) Cracks on the static sealing surface are mainly caused by unreasonable design, poor manufacturing quality, improper installation or operation, and long-term exposure to alternating loads.
(5) There is an obvious groove on the static sealing surface, which is mainly the result of medium erosion after the leakage of the static sealing surface is not repaired in time.
(6) Serious corrosion of the static sealing surface is mainly caused by the corrosion of the medium and the improper selection of valves. (7) There are leakage holes on the static sealing surface, which are mainly caused by defects such as wrinkles, porosity, and ballast caused by poor manufacturing quality.
(8) The deformation of the static sealing surface is mainly due to insufficient stiffness, excessive connection force, and thermal creep at high temperature.
The damage of the static sealing surface is one of the main causes of valve leakage, which should be paid attention to.
